National Geographic World Classic Pacific Centered Wall Map Laminated 46 x 305 inches National Geographic Reference Map National Geographic Maps Reference 0749717123267 Books Reviews

  • I have been looking for a world map like this for several years and finally found this one, by National Geographic no less! It didn’t disappoint! This map is Pacific centered, not the usual Atlantic centered format. It means the Pacific Islands are not split at the dateline and stuck divided on both edges of the map, instead of integrated and visable as a whole. While this is particularly attractive to people who have lived in the Pacific, as I have, it also strikes me as a more appropriate layout of our world. High quality map, nicely laminated. Highly recommended!
  • This is a fantastic map for teaching. It avoids the distortion of both the Mercator and Gall-Peters projections. The map closely reflects the Winkel III or Kavrayskiy VII projections, though it's centered on the Pacific Ocean rather than the Atlantic. Centering the map in this way also ensures that continents aren't cut off or duplicated and better demonstrates the scale of the globe by forefronting the largest ocean. The southern pole is a bit distorted, but inlays in the upper corners show the poles more accurately. This is an excellent map for displaying in a classroom or an office.
  • Nice world map from a different view. Place names are all very clear, just kinda tiny. Some reviewers said it's laminated- it isn't. It's on nice glossy paper though. My pics show the tube label, the map pinned above my 60" desk for scale, and the ISBN # if you want to search it on a lookup site for exact details. I plan to mount it to frame it mounted on foam board w/o glass so I can put pins on it.
  • I purchased two of these maps, and I was very pleased. It comes in a nice plastic tube that is easy to wrap. The map itself is beautiful. The blue is vibrant and, I love how it is Pacific Centered. We got it framed and are currently using it to remember and track all of our family vacations.
  • The Pacific projection is exactly what I needed for my DVD Movie I am making showing a travel route that I took across the Pacific Ocean that began in Orlando, Florida to Guam, Saipan, and Cairns, Aus. I would recommend mounting the map between clear acrylic sheet material and a masonite back mounted in a frame, as it will develop some air bubbles if you use spray contact glue, or use a cabinet contact cement that is brushed on both the back of the map and the mounting sheet.
  • beautiful! This map is excellent for anyone interested in alternate map layouts from the traditional Atlantic (GMT) centered maps.

I study the Ring of Fire which wraps around the Pacific Ocean, so this map is far superior to a standard Atlantic Centered map for my studies.
  • Particularly nice map perspective. I use it with my short wave radio to figure out where people are with whom I am speaking.
  • love how little old NZ is centre
